Looking for The Tournament?

Review of MOVIETITLEMACRO

Check out the trailer:

So what’s The Tournament all about?

The Tournament is mockumentary series that promises to do for minor hockey what Spinal Tap did for dino-rock and Best in Show did for dogs. Produced by the folks behind the Just For Laughs comedy festival, “The Tournament” strikes a blow at the insanity of hockey parents and speaks to everyone who ever skated on his or her ankles. The show boasts special appearances by NHL legends Phil Esposito, Marcel Dionne, Dennis Hull and Yvon Cournoyer. This 2 DVD set features the complete series with a full roster of special features including bonus footage and interviews. Nominated for three Gemini Awards! A rarity to be treasured! -The New York Times.

Personally, I thought Alain Goulem was incredible, but wasn’t too impressed with Paula Boudreau.

The kids and their pet monsters have forsaken the city for the countryside in this trio of episodes from the animated TV series. First they stumble into a booby-trapped Ninja mansion in “The Ninja Poké-Showdown.” The head Ninja challenges Ash to a “two-on-two” Pokémon battle, which introduces two forms of the insect monster Veronat. For a little dash of culture, evildoers Team Rocket appear in kabuki garb. Then it’s on to the Pokémon preserve in “The Flame Pokémon-Athon!” in which cowgirl Lara (complete with Southernish accent) trains her protected Pokémon for the big annual race. Finally, in “The Kangaskhan Kid,” Ash, Misty, and Brock help reunite a little Tarzan twin who lives in the wild with a pack of kangaroo-like Pokémon with his father, who accidentally dropped him from an airplane when he was three, and his mother, who, curiously, appears not to resent her husband’s carelessness. This 75-minute tape will appeal to Pokémon fans of all ages; however, parents concerned about the fighting may want to wait until their tots are preschool-age to introduce them to the phenom that is Pokémon. –Kimberly Heinrichs

Ok, let’s look at Bent.

First, the movie is about Renowned British stage director Sean Mathias directs Martin Sherman’s “powerful and provocative” (The New York Times) screenplay about one man’s struggle to maintain his dignity while imprisoned in a Nazi concentration camp. Featuring exceptional performances by Lothaire Bluteau (Black Robe), Clive Owen (Gosford Park), Brian Webber, Ian McKellen (The Lord of the Rings: TheFellowship of the Ring) and Mick Jagger, Bent will “grab filmgoers by the heart” (Rex Reed)! Max (Owen) is a handsome young man who, after a fateful tryst with a German soldier, is forced to run for his life. Pursued and captured, Max is placed in a concentration camp where he pretends to be Jewishbecause in the eyes of the Nazis, gays are the lowest form of human being. But it takes a forbidden relationship with an openly gay prisoner to teach Max that without the love of another, life is not worth living..

I really enjoyed the performace of Lothaire Bluteau and Lothaire Bluteau. The rest of the cast was solid as well. The cast includes Clive Owen, Lothaire Bluteau, Ian McKellen, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Mick Jagger.

Crest of the Stars - The Politics of War was an incredible movie! Both Yuka Imai and Ayako Kawasumi were amazing!

The great cast includes Yuka Imai, Ayako Kawasumi, Takehito Koyasu, Hirotaka Suzuoki, Alex Day.

If you love watching Yuka Imai or Ayako Kawasumi, you are definitely going to want to watch Crest of the Stars - The Politics of War

The friendship (and nascent romance) that ties Abh princess Lafiel to human nobleman Jinto Lin unfolds against the increasing hostilities between mankind and the vast Abh Empire. They escape the destruction of the warship Gosroth, only to find themselves in the clutches of an allied princeling attempting to increase the size of his petty domain. Based on a novel by the prominent Japanese science fiction writer Hiroyuki Morioka, Crest of the Stars plays like a cross between Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure and Macross or one of the early Gundam continuities. Jinto is a well-intentioned but reluctant nobleman who finds himself out of his league; Lafiel vacillates between no-nonsense discipline and romantic daydreams. Aya Yoshinaga’s screenplay suffers from an overload of Abh jargon, including such nonsensicalities as “You put lope in your til nom?” Rated 13 Up: brief nudity, minor profanity and violence, largely limited to spaceship versus spaceship. –Charles Solomon

Looking for Liebestraum?

I enjoyed MOVIETITLEMACRO because...

Check out the trailer:

So what’s Liebestraum all about?

Inspired by the haunting music of composer Franz Liszt, Liebestraum is an ominous tale (Time Out) of lust, jealousy and murder. Award-winning* writer/director Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas) brilliantly weaves a ’smoldering blend of sex, death and music (Janet Maslin, TheNew York Times) into a ’satisfyingly dark (The Hollywood Reporter), ’sophisticated, seductive [and] romantic thriller (Village View)! What begins as a passionate crusade to save a landmark building turns into a passionate love affair with dire consequences. Nick (Kevin Anderson), a professor of architecture who’s come home to visit his dying mother (Kim Novak), knows he must preserve a cast-iron building marked for demolition by Paul (Bill Pullman), a ruthless developer andformer friend. But when he falls for Paul’s wife, Jane (Pamela Gidley), Nick unwittingly tempts fate with his own life. For buried within the walls of the landmark lies a dark secreta murderous history which is linked to Nick and now may find him as its next victim! *1995: Director, IndependentSpirit Award, LA Film Critics Circle and National Society of Film Critics, Leaving Las Vegas

Personally, I thought Kevin Anderson was incredible, but wasn’t too impressed with Pamela Gidley.

Ok, so you want to watch Character.

Ok, let’s look at Character.

First, the movie is about Character, the 1997 Oscar winner for Best Foreign Language Film, is an Oedipal struggle both primal and epic with a Dickensian sweep and a dark Kafka-esque center. The film starts with a heated argument between two men, and when the elder is found dead with a knife in his chest the younger man is arrested and revealed to be his son. The story begins in flashback: the father, Dreverhaven (Jan Decleir from Antonia’s Line), is a fearless Scrooge-like moneylender who has cold-heartedly built his fortune by collecting debts and foreclosing on the poor. His son, Katadreuffe (Fedja van Huet), is the offspring of a single night’s passion with his housekeeper–in an interesting twist he hounds her to marry him, and she leaves with the boy to raise him on her own. When she dies, father and son become locked in a fascinating battle: as Katadreuffe finds him calling in the law, Dreverhaven buys up his debts and attempts to drive him into bankruptcy. Katadreuffe eagerly takes up every challenge his father throws at him in a perverse show of strength and filial defiance. Adapted by first-time director Mike Van Diem from the 1938 novel by Ferdinand Bordewijk, this handsome epic is assured from the first frame, and excellent performances by Decleir (whose imposing Dreverhaven seems to tower over all by will as much as by size) and van Huet bring to life this study of two tortured psyches whose love emerges only through conflict and competition. –Sean Axmaker.

I really enjoyed the performace of Fedja van Huêt and Fedja van Huêt. The rest of the cast was solid as well. The cast includes Jan Decleir, Fedja van Huêt, Betty Schuurman, Tamar van den Dop, Victor Löw.
